ARRA-Stimulus Package

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is an unprecedented effort by the United States Federal government to jumpstart our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century. With much at stake, the Act provides for unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability so that you will be able to know how, when, and where your tax dollars are being spent.  In response to President Obama's call for public accountability and transparency, this website will be the City of Norfolk's main vehicle to provide each and every citizen with the ability to monitor the progress of the recovery.

With the passing of ARRA, the City was diligent in researching all possible opportunities for funding for our community.  From April through July 2009, the City submitted twelve applications totaling $180 million in ARRA grant funding.  The City was awarded over $15.2 million in ARRA funding for seven programs which are being used for job creation, programs and services, and capital infrastructure improvements within our City.  Most of the approved funding has been provided through block grant allocation formulas.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be carried out with full transparency and accountability -- and www.Recovery.gov  is the centerpiece of that effort. To learn more read here.

The Commonwealth has developed a website for citizens, groups, localities, and others to use to share project proposals for funding from the federal stimulus package. To learn more read here.
